Barbury Castle

Overlooking the town of Swindon, this 60 hectare site is notable for its chalk grassland and associated wildlife. The iron-age hill fort is the best example of this habitat, as part of it has remained undisturbed since ancient times. The thin soil with good drainage allows only specialist plants to grow.

Facilities:

  • Car parking
  • As an isolated site it is perfect for wildlife watching, walking, mountain biking and horse riding
  • The amenity field next to the car park is perfect for flying a kite and exercising dogs
