Best ideas for celebrating New Year's Eve at home with the kids

New Year's Eve is the perfect time to get together with the family, reflect on the past year, make goals for the next but more importantly to play games and have some fun!

If you are wanting to make special memories with your kids at home on New Year's Eve and but struggling to come up with ideas, then look no further! We have compiled a list below to help you make the last day of the year the most fun one yet!

Pop a balloon every hour
You can start at any time of the day you want and pop as many balloons as you wish. Get the kids to number each balloon and together you can pop one on the hour every hour until midnight.  To make it even more fun, you can fill the balloons with confetti.

Decorate and fill paper bags and open each hour
Fill paper bags with surprises for the kids that need to be opened every hour. The kids can help decorate the bags and number them but the contents can remain a surprise for them! It can be anything from games to play, books or even something that they can eat.

Set up an Escape Room game
Why not set up an Escape Room game for the kids to try and solve in the house? You can download kits online and keep the kids busy for a few hours.

Photo booth and props
Spend the earlier part of the day with the kids making props for your own photo booth - from exaggerated glasses, to feather hats or moustaches - anything goes! Make it fun and silly!

Play games
You can either play New Year's Eve special Bingo (there are plenty you can download online) or stick to the classics - Snakes and Ladders or Jenga. Don't forget the Two Resolutions and a Lie; each family member has to take it in turn telling everyone else two resolutions that are true and one that is a lie. The rest of the family has to guess which one is the lie.

Slideshow of the last year
Create a slideshow that you can cast to the TV with all your favourite memories and highlights from the past year. It's a great way to reflect on all the good times that you enjoyed together as a family.

Hot chocolate and stargazing
Get the kids involved in making a hot chocolate with marshmallows, dress up warm and head out to the garden. You can light a fire and stargaze if the sky is clear enough.

Have a dance party
What better way to have a fun night than by dancing the night away? Create a playlist with every family member's favourite songs and dance together until the clock strikes midnight.

Paper plate shakers
Make and decorate your own paper plate shakers to use at midnight. Simply get two plates, put rice in one and then glue the two together around the edges. While you are gluing them add a wooden stick between the two to hold the plate shaker by. The kids can then decorate the plates however they wish.

We hope you have fun planning a fantastic New Year’s Eve!
